C5 Performance Customer Stories
Most of our feedback comes from phone calls or text messages. The best compliment is when a customer takes the time for a photo and short story of how multi sparking improved their vehicle. For most of us it's not about raw performance.
It's about the total package:
Here are some of the emails we've gotten over the past few months. Thank you everyone for sending us feedback.
It's about the total package:
- Improved and consistent engine starting
- Steady idle at all temperatures
- Ability to start if the engine is slightly flooded
- Strong and smooth acceleration
- Reliability
- Timing accuracy (no detonation when the engine gets hot)
Here are some of the emails we've gotten over the past few months. Thank you everyone for sending us feedback.
Special shout-out to Paul Crowe with his C-5 Ignition, that Tom Isenhartinstalled on both of our H’s. Both tractors run great and my dad said he wouldn’t built another tractor without a C-5.
Thank you,

Hello Paul, My name is Andrew Dalton and I purchased your PRO ignition kit for my Case VAC tractor last fall and so far I have absolutely loved it.
I just got home from the Oklahoma winter nationals this past weekend and out of the 6 classes I pulled I got four 1st places a 2nd place and a 3rd place so I would say it was a great weekend of pulling.

Building race cars and Harley's over the years I've probably owned every type of ignition known to man. Dual points to electronic, Mallory, Accel, dyna you name it. Yours by far outranks them all.

Hey I didn't forget ya, I will be sending you a couple can koozies Monday. I pulled last Sunday but don't have my tach on yet, but I love your ignition she pulled down and lugged- no misfire or detonation.
Last week I pulled 279.5 best I ever did and I know your C5 was to thank, tractor never ran better or so smooth!

Hi Paul,
I just wanted to say thank you for your help with my 1986 GL1200.
I am so happy that I bought your last 1200 kit!!
In the spring of 2017, I started my bike for the first time, after it sat
All winter. I’ve had it 12 yrs. and I do the same thing every spring.
That spring the bike made a strange backfire noise, and the tach.
Showed approximately twice the RPMs from that time forward.
I didn’t really notice the tach at that time. She seemed to run OK
Just not quite the same though. The more I rode it the more irritated
I became. So, I pulled the carbs apart and rebuilt them since they had
Not been touched since I had the bike. This seemed to help, and at
First I thought I had it fixed. But, of course when I rode it enough to
Bring it to higher temps, I found I still had some kind of issue. It would
Just miss out sometimes, and fall on it’s face at strange and unpredictable
Times. I have learned it’s very difficult to find new parts for a 32 year
Old motorcycle. I firmly believed that I had some issue with my ignition
System, but I was not certain exactly what the issue was.
After much searching, I found C5 and Paul. I called Paul on the phone,
(Which was no short call let me tell you} and was absolutely stunned by
The wealth of information that he truly is. I learned more about Gold Wings
And ignitions on that phone call that I could have dreamed.
Needless, to say, I bought an ignition from Paul. With the new ignition,
I no longer needed any of the 32 year old ignition parts on my bike.
After completing the install, the bike just runs perfect!! It starts easier,
Runs smoother, stronger, and just better than it has in the 12 years since
I’ve owned it. It seems to have more low end torque than before. I am
Still learning that I don’t have to downshift nearly as often as before.
I am just completely satisfied. It’s like I have bought a new bike. I’ve
Went from thinking I would need to buy a newer bike, to falling back
In love with my old classic.
So Paul, I just want to say thank you for giving me back my bike!!
Sincerely
Randy Hubbard

My friend Tom has used our products in several bikes. One in particular would not start, although it did have spark. Here is his reply after several days of head scratching and phone calls to us for help...
Paul, As usual, your ignition is perfect. It was fuel related, solved quickly. What a relief! I’d begin to lose confidence in my motors! Thanks again for helping me out so much. Cheers, Tom Leverone

Hello Paul,
I have been meaning to contact you for a few weeks to update you on my Suzuki GS 300l, and the installation of the C5 Ignition.
The last time I wrote to you, I had brought my motorcycle back from the shop and ordered a new ignition, which you kindly provided at cost – thanks for standing by your product.
I installed the new ignition myself and the bike is up and running well! Lots of power and smooth acceleration and operation. I am very pleased!
Though the weather has been poor, I have enjoyed some good rides as the weather has allowed – I look forward to spring.
Thanks so much for your patience and support – I trust with the new voltage regulator that I will not have any repeats of over voltage.
I enclose a photo of my bike.
Thanks again,
Rob Stewart

The first pull after installing C5 our tractor the carb was too lean. We gave it more fuel and have now won 5 pulls in a row! Thanks for coming to teach us about the ignition and help with installation. We are very excited to be part of the C5 family.

This bike runs like a totally different bike. Crazy how much better it runs. I used the dial-a-map yesterday when I went to pick up my kid from soccer practice. I had it on Map 2 when empty on the way out and Map 3 when loaded and dealing with hills on the way back.
Thanks again,

This is the before and after of my 1990 Virago 1100 that has your older system with the 4 timing maps the intake is my design.between the two I can reach and maintain 130 mph+ I ride this bike daily and Cross country. I plug your ignition to everyone who asks about the bike and I get a lot of questions.
I haven't had it dyno'd because they want $500 for that.
I live in the desert I have no heat issues And your triple spark ensures that I burn just as well in the winter. You make an amazing ignition.

Regarding custom Ural timing maps for an 825cc big bore engine-
I think I found the problem as today the rig ran perfectly all day long on and off road. I replaced the 12 year old starter motor which was starting to drag and pulled a lot of juice needed to fire off those four spark plugs, while replacing the starter I found that I had a bad ground connection. Now the rig starts easily with electric start and kick starts easy as well.
Today riding with the other rigs we rode up some long steep grades, while the others were in third gear, I was in forth and still able to accelerate. TORQUE is what this engine setup the way I built mine is all about. So far I am very pleased with how this is working out. Only time will tell how long it will last, the one thing I have been and will continue to do is keep the MAXIMUM speed at or below 65mph, yes it will go faster but WHY, that's not what I built it for.

Mr. Crowe,
want to let you know that I pulled the ole Deere this past weekend and that son of a bitch never missed a stroke after tuning it with your air fuel meter!
Believe it or not I was actually very rich when I tuned it which is a good thing because I plan on purchasing a Murphy's Manifold which will give me more air, which of coarse will allow me to give it more fuel!
I just want to say thanks again for all your help and I am very pleased with how my Deere is running. I tore up quite a few tractors this weekend that were more than double my horses! She went to work on em!

Gotta love it. Tractor fired right up and sounds good, very smooth. The lag you would normally get up until advance weights start to move is non existent!

All the electrics hidden by the side panel, the ignition coil is mounted on a L shaped bracket beneath the battery. I just need to get some overbraid to protect the wiring, and possibly trim a bit.. i left things longer just in case. By the way, just went to start it. No throttle, 1st kick start.

Hey Paul,
I really enjoyed our conversation Tuesday morning and again wish you a great 50th, sounds like you have a great off road trip planned for celebrating.
Also, I’m looking forward to receiving the kit and firing up that XV1100 lump. I rebuilt the engine and until I hear one idling I’m always somewhat anxious.
I’ve attached a few pictures so you can see where I’m at and what your ignition system is being installed on.
Again happy birthday and have a safe trip.

Paul,
Thanks for tuning help with our tractors. Both are running better than ever! Using your AF meter and revised timing maps helped us get the old girl running sweet.
Dad jumped on his tractor and usually pulls 200-220 feet. Today with the new ignition he pulled a crazy 288 foot pull. Here is a video of dads run. You can hear (compared to two weeks ago) how great the tractor runs. It is still a bit lean and we'll continue to make small adjustments with testing in between.

My friend Mark and I have been tuning his Moline G1000 tractor. It is 800+ cubic inches and runs on LP (liquid propane). Previously ignition was MSD. We have spent much time trying to fix performance & running issues. Using our C5 ignition we had decent power but AF readings were still in excess of 1.1 lambda (that is too lean). After more carb parts were installed, and with fairly aggressive timing, Mark attended his local county fair and here is the response I got when asked how it ran:
"Awesome!!! Slight minor flutter at 2000 (very minor) ran up to 2800 rpms and at the end I threw the torque ahead and spun the tires. Awesome!!!! 2nd place out of 15 tractors thanks again!!!"

To Paul Crowe at C5 ignitions,
I just wanted to let you know that so far I am very pleased with my new C5 ignition. With some basic wiring skills it was not very difficult to install and was very simple to adjust. I installed it on my pulling tractor on a Friday and took it pulling on that Saturday.
I took 1st place in my class so needless to say it ran well. It seams to start better, idle smother and seams more responsive. So Far C5 gets two thumbs up! Thanks for the great product, it's nice to have a good reliable and accurate ignition system that can adapt to so many applications.
Sincerely,
A crazy tractor puller

Paul,
Well I would like to say that your C5 ignition is absolutely awesome. Easy to install the bike starts easy, and I rev the bike at 7500 RPM every gear lap after lap. Now lets talk about the rev limiter. It seems that I could rev the engine far beyond that. Is there one already in it or do I need to program it? Oh by the way I installed mine at the rear cylinder. The front one "cylinder" has an oil cooler with a scoop. Anyway good job.
-Pat
(As a side note, the Virago maps are set to 9,500 rpm limit. Either the tach is set incorrectly or is defective -Paul)

Here is a review of the new C5 ignition system I am using on my CBX 1340cc Turbo.
Usually I would use the dyna ignition but I needed to be able to retard the ignition when the turbo started to blow. With the dyna it meant modifying the 35 year old advance and retard unit to limit the advance to around 30 deg instead of the 42deg as standard. This is not ideal as at high revs with no boost the engine lost its snap and fuel consumption was poor.
Enter the C5 system, the advantages are instead of 1 spark at the plug you get 3 sparks miliseconds apart, this ensures all the fuel is burnt with no pockets of unburnt fuel left in the cylinder. The advance and retard are electronically controlled and you can have 4 different maps to switch between if you so desire. There is a rev limiter built in and a dedicated output for an electronic tacho. The advance, the amount of advance, the rev limiter and the time between each spark is fully adjustable with the programming lead.
On my bike I used 2 maps both controlled by a vacuum switch so under normal riding the map uses an advanced map to restore the performance as per a standard bike but when the turbo kicks in the vacuum switch switches to a retarded map to protect the engine from detonation. I connected up the electronic tacho, set the rev limiter and that was it, job done.
The fitting was pretty straight forward, remove all the old advance unit and pulsers, swap the coils over to the smaller more powerfull C5 coils as the original coils can not give 3 sparks in such a small space of time, fitted the new ht wires and alter the wiring a little then after setting top dead centre by way of the led lighting up I was ready to give it a try. Turned on the fuel, pulled the choke and pressed the starter, fired up first time and ran perfectly I could tell the engine was quite a bit smoother and when the throttle was blipped the two leds I had fitted swapped state to tell me the vacuum switch was working.
I did purchase the programming lead so that I can change my maps on the dyno when I am ready. Cant fault the system and Paul the owner of C5 was a great help in making my decision. I got the first C5 new type module for the CBX that makes the programming easier without having to remove it to carry out the programming. If anyone needs their map changing let me know and I would be happy to help.

Paul,
Discovering C5 Performance was the turning point that allowed me to get a very special 4 cylinder race engine, that I had been working on for a year, running properly.
Because of the engine's uneven firing intervals there is only a very short time between firing number 1 and 4 cylinders. I had modified both conventional and electronic distributors to try to make it work, but there just wasn't enough dwell time to give a consistent spark above 5,000 rpm and a crank fire system was out of the question because of race regulations.
When I contacted you I was very impressed with your understanding of the issue and with your enthusiasm to help me make this weird engine configuration run.You worked through a weekend to modify the distributor I sent you and then were quick to get back to me to answer any questions I had during installation and setup.
The first time I started the engine with the C5 ignition it ran solidly to well over 8,000 rpm without missing a beat and it continues to start and run flawlessly. I don't want to quote dyno numbers because a number of things are different from the conventional engine but your ignition made it all sing and dance so in a sense the gain was enormous. Plus, the ability to select four different timing maps with the turn of a switch is really helpful on the dyno.
It is so refreshing to work with someone who says what they will do and then does what they said they would.
Thanks a whole bunch, Paul and C5, it`s a great pleasure working with you.

Paul,
As you know, we've now got the C5 ignition kits in our Yale forklift, Gehl skidder, Yamaha Virago cycle, and recently our John Deere tractor. Dad hates using stuff that hasn't been converted to your ignition and we can't have him standing in the cold trying to start this tractor anymore.
The other day we got the JD running and it's never popped off so fast! In sub zero weather it cranks up like it wasn't even sitting. Thanks for designing that kit for us, we certainly appreciate all you have done to keep dad working.

Paul,
I just wanted to update you on my 1986 GL1200.
The Goldwing is still running great.
I took it out yesterday (Thanksgiving Day in New Hampshire!), and today. I have had it out in 90 degress and 30 degrees, and it always runs the same, very well. I have added about 2,000 miles to the bike since installing the C5 ignition.
The coil pack also seems to be staying very firmly in position where I mounted it.
Thanks again for making such a great ignition kit for the GL1200.
Dave

Hi Paul,
it seems the year already passed since the last email.
Anyways - ignition works magic on my "ZZ" :) And a BIG thank you for that :)
I still remember 2013 trip to Black Forest in Germany when "ZZ" decided to go on one cylinder due to faulty motoplat "ignition s***"
I did European trip this summer making 5000 miles - not a single glitch (in relation to ignition that is).
Had one "petrol supply issue" in Lithuania - due to clogged petrol filter - that is in the gas tank itself :)
Usually during rainy (and snowy) seasons i use Buell XB and my "ZZ" mostly gets good weather treatment only :)
Ignition performs without fail in all conditions: damp and rainy morning starts; +40'C (104F) afternoons.
Once again - thank you for the great product you make :)
Best Regards,
Kastis
Heya mate,
I finally got the bloody Guzzi on the road, seems to have taken forever! Can't thank you enough for your amazing ignition system, she fires up instantly, hot or cold, and drops straight into a rock solid idle, even with the lumpy cam, featherweight alloy flywheel, and numerous other engine mods i did during the build. I am still just running her in, so am not flogging the tits off of her yet but she pulls hard and hesitation free, no pinging either which is brilliant. put 400kms on her in the last few days, issue free apart from the usual head retorque, valve adjusts, and oil and filter changes as per any fresh engine build! i will be singing your praises to anyone that will listen mate. will send you a quick vid of her firing up from cold next time i am in town on break.
Thanks again!

Hi Paul,
I will like to tell you that I fitted your ignition into my virago xv1100 project bike, all fits like a glove. The bike previous owner had tried to get bike running for 18 months without success and sold it due to the frustration of it not running. I can report that the bike after cleaning the carbs out started easily. What a pleasure. I have since purchased a single carb manifold to make life easier. I fitted the ignition on the rear cylinder.
It is always a pleasure to fit parts onto a motorcycle that have been manufactured to the high standard as your ignition. I have recommended the system to a colleague that owns a couple of Viragos.

My KZ900 is running the best it ever has since fitting the C5 ignition. After installing the C5 ignition it starts easier and runs much smoother without hesitation or misfire right from a cold start. I had a couple of questions about the installation and spoke directly to Paul. It was refreshing to find someone on the end of the phone who was genuine, knew what they were talking about and prepared to help. If you ride your classic then I would recommend fitting a C5 ignition.

Hi Paul
Just a short update to tell you the preparation for the Isle of Man Classic TT is well underway and we were track testing the bike last weekend. All is going well and the programming of the ignition is taking the engine power development to a whole new level.
I believe my bike will be the first Power Arc system to be used in the Isle of Man so if we get a good finish in the race in August it will be quite an achievement.
Wish us luck

Hi Paul just messaging you to say how pleased I am with the C5 Ignition that we fitted to my 1979 Moto Guzzi G5 V1000, the instructions were excellent, fitment a breeze and performance is fantastic with the standard curve, it also idles much better......

It's so refreshing to know that customer service still exists. I made an investment in a C5 ignition for my Kawasaki KZ400 and had some problems that were no fault of the product. Paul (the guy who sold me the unit) worked with me over the phone to troubleshoot my issues and insisted I continue to contact him if the problem wasn't solved. You just don't get service like that these days. This ignition has done everything it was advertised to do and more. I'm a happy customer.

The KZ400 ran pretty well at Roebling last weekend. I had issues, but they were not ignition related, I don't think. I bogged the start twice. Had some fuel pickup issues, but ran full-throttle in 6th gear with no problems. I hit the rev-limiter in every gear in the second race. I need carbs. Thanks for your help getting things sorted leading up to the race.
Cheers.

*This customer had carburetor issues and after installing our ignition we assisted with tuning. The feedback was indeed good news:
"Hi, Paul
Thank you for your advice. I just finished a test run on midnight. It worked well. I closed Air Screw to make the mixture dense and changed aluminium washers on vacuum testing holes to make them air tight. Now my CB's idling is much more stable. Hopefully, no further problem in the future.
Thanks a lot!"

Hi Paul, I finally installed my new generation ignition system in my 1976 Goldwing. Instructions were clear and concise, installation was straightforward. Best of all the bike started up immediately after the modules installation. Yeah!

The C5Performance ignition is amazing. I have never experienced such a transformation in the running character before from an aftermarket ignition. The floorboards don't buzz on the freeway anymore. Starting is instant. Tick over is like a metronome.

(Barry Bates has been using our ignition on his Moto Guzzi Convert for almost two years. He has been plagued with detonation issues during extended rides in the mountains. I have expressed concern there were unrelated carb and/or engine issues causing this. Here is the January 2015 update we just received...).
"Hi Paul I just got back from a short 80 mile ride up the pass. I'm on the number 1 curve and not a ping anywhere. Did a little research last week and discovered the auto parts was giving me hotter plugs instead of colder. One step colder to a 9 from the 8's combined with the adjustments to the carb you recommended and that old tug is running very fine. I have Q-fin grips with the paddle on the throttle side so I can tell where my throttle position is at a predetermined speed. Quite a difference between #4 and #1 curves."

Paul,
I finally got to put your ignition system in my '75 400 four. It made a phenomenal difference to my bike - the single best thing I've done to improve the bike. Your instructions were spot on. The only thing I had to do was file out a little more play in the holes for the bolts that fasten the coils to the frame (a little tight) to get the bolts to go through straight. (*NOTE* We had fitment issues on some kits also and had switched to slotted holes shortly after Tony purchased his kit).
After installation it fired up straight away and the improvement in throttle response was immediately noticeable. Where the bike had a muddy throttle response at low revs I now have crisp even power right through. Thanks again - you have a quality product and I will promote it at every opportunity down here in Australia. In fact my mate that helped on the install is hoping you have an option for his CB750

Paul,
To give you an idea on how bad the engine was running, I was contemplating pulling the engine out and rebuilding it, but the C5 system just revived it to new life.
Went for a test ride, took about a minute to warm up and then it, quite literally, roared into life. Really made me enjoy riding it again with having it be nice and reliable.
I installed NGK Iridium plugs, installed the C5 ignition, and it really gave it a good amount of power and responsiveness. Actually managed to spin up the back tires at 20mph too!!
I'll have to have a play with the different maps by unearthing those wires, see what works best for me with my set up and which gives me the most fun!
Cheers,
Dom

Hi Paul.
I've got the ignition set up now we have worked out which No1 cylinder is.
No kickback if I turn the engine over a couple of times before turning on the ignition and it fires first or second kick. with a massive spark.
Fantastic. You have converted a 830cc 90 degree BSA into a pussy cat.

Hey Paul,
I purchased this ignition 6000 miles ago and it is awesome! In addition, the ignition took 10 minutes to install including timing; and kick-starting has never been easier, throttle response has never been smoother and my efficiency has increased 30%. Originally, I was using a Crane HI-4, and honestly I dont see myself using a lesser quality than C5ignitions' products.
Thanks

Hi Paul, here's a quick update on my BSA. I have found through increments, that 34 seems the best full advance figure thus far. Smooth, crisp acceleration. I really appreciate the ease with which it can be changed. I have yet to try running it on 38! Took it to the MOT Saturday, (Mandatory annual vehicle test here), for 3yr. old+ vehicles, and it passed ok. I WILL post a video of it running soon.

Curtis Rosche from Pennsylvania USA installed our Virago kit on his '88 XV1100. Curtis said this:
- My bike runs like a beast. Starts right up, no problems cold or hot. Pulls from idle to redline with no problem
- Everything just bolts on, and crimp ends on a few wires. Easy as can be
- 1988 and runs better than new!
- Bike is together an running excellent. Just got a wash and wax.
Has the KJS single carb kit, and C5 performance digital laser guided ignition. Runs like a beast and sounds amazing. Loads of torque, much better than stock. Starts up in an instant. Haven't figured out the mpg yet cause it's too much fun. Both kits bolted on pretty simple and had great customer service from their creators.
Hi Paul:
As I recall, the installation on my l976 Moto Guzzi Convert was very straightforward. Your well illustrated instructions helped a lot. The coil fits well on the main "spine" of the frame under the tank. I took extra care in protecting the wiring with shrink tubing, and routed it in a way to minimize contact with other parts. Timing was very simple, as long as care is taken to make sure the left cylinder is at the "real" TDC (compression with both valves closed).
The bike starts easily on the very first revolution, and warms up to smooth running very quickly (I only need the choke for about 30 seconds). Throttle response is excellent, idle is great. I had to pay a lot of attention to carb synching, float adjustment, but once I got the carbs dialed in things were great!
After replacing carb slide needles and fine-tuning the floats, it is running very well indeed. Starts instantly, great throttle response, etc.
I have not calculated actual mileage yet, but a qualitative estimate suggests it is much improved.
Most of all, I appreciated the support I got from Paul....from sending some replacement plug wire pieces (to replace some that I messed up), to adjusting the length of the coil mounting bolts. Paul was right there through the whole process, and always responded to my inquiries quickly and professionally. Although the
C5 is not cheap, it is not that far in cost from the alternative Hall-Effect type points replacements, especially when the cost of the coils is factored in. I have about 600 miles on the bike since installing the C5, and consider my self a very satisfied customer.

Paul I wanted to give you an update on what I am finding with respect to the C5 ignition and the addition of the rotary switch. Two years ago I rode the Skyline Drive in Virginia and I was shifting all the time as I was climbing those mountain roads. Yesterday I rode the Cherohala Skyway in Tennessee and North Carolina and I was climbing these mountain roads in fifth gear and rarely needed to shift. If the engine seemed to be lugging I simply switched to another ignition setting and the bike accelerated up the road. I don't want you to think I didn't shift at all, but the frequency of shifting has been drastically reduced. You have turned my 33 year old bike into a mountain goat! Thanks just doesn't seem like enough to say... Brian in PA

Hello Paul,
Just want to give you an update on my Cal 3 ignition. The bike sat all winter with a couple other issues that needed fixing, dash mounting bracket had cracked. Please feel free to use my Cal 3 as a reference if you ever need. Tom Omlid, Lake George, Mn.

Paul,
As mentioned earlier today I am totally impressed with the new C5 ignition system on my 1973 Honda CB750K3. I planned on doing a a quick 50 mile test ride and ended up doing about 150 instead with an ear to ear grin all the way!
The new coil design and associated mounts worked out great. The motorcycle now has an exceptionally smooth and rock solid steady idle (had to back off the idle from original setting), absolutely immediate throttle response throughout the entire range and the motorcycle now revs to the moon!
I can't believe the noticeable difference, and just how smooth and crisp the motorcycle runs now. It's really like a completely new or different motorcycle.
I have been working on and racing all types of motorcycles for over 35 years and have tried many different "performance" or "upgrade" ignition system thru the course of time and this is by far the best performing and easiest to install ignition system I have used to date.
Thanks again for the fine product and OUTSTANDING support you provided.

"This bike always ran great so I didn't really expect any improvement but I really think it does run better with this new ignition. It was always a cold-blooded beast, doing a lot of spitting back through the carb and needing a heavy dose of choke until it got warmed up but it doesn't seem to be doing that as much now though it is about 60 degrees here right now."

Paul,
Picked up the Ural today. That rig runs AWESOME now! Seriously, it's awesome. I was doing doughnuts in the dirt parking lot earlier tonight. It really runs great. Tell me where to go to put up a testimonial? Right here Sam...
"Paul - I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the purchase of your ignition system for my Ural. As you know, this Ural is running on an old BMW Boxer 750 engine, and the altitude here in Colorado really takes a lot of the punch from the engine. After installing your ignition system, that damn motorcycle runs like a champ! I was effortlessly (and recklessly) spinning mad doughnuts in the dirt field near my house. It significantly increased the horsepower, the smoothness of the idle, and the "punch" that was missing. Excellent product... well done, amigo."

I was able to break away this afternoon and took it for it's first ride of about 45 miles. WOW!! The ride was first to town for fuel then down the two lane highway that was mostly straight, but up and down hills. All the things you said would be there were, it accelerated more quickly, acceleration and running were noticeably smother, and just nicer to drive overall.

I had no idea what the C5 was when I first heard about it. All I heard was I would not need another set of coils for my ride. I had gone through 3 or 4 sets of 30 plus year old coils in the last two years. I could not get OEM coils from Honda for a bike this old. I thought the price was a little high until I realized that with this kit I got new coils, spark plug wires, mounting system, and a neat spinning wheel with a strobe light.
I wanted to make sure I had the kit installed correctly so I called Paul on the phone and he talked me through the last wire. He laughed when I asked if he wanted to hear my engine run over the phone.
I turned the key on and hit the start button. It started right up the very first time.
Now that I have been riding with this system for 3 months from 95 degree heat to 18 degree cold I have found the following:
It starts as soon as I hit the start button. In any gear it is ready to pull me ahead real fast. There is no more putt putt -- -it is ZOOM ZOOM at any speed. I can pass a vehicle and know I have the power to get around it fast.
In the heat of the summer it starts right up with no choke. In the cold it starts right up with the choke.
I am glad I made the decision to have purchased this for my bike.

It is cold today (about 40 degrees F) so I fired it up to see if my initial suspicions were correct in that it runs better with this new ignition -- it does! Hardly any spitting back through the carburetor during warm up and I can idle it down while it is warming up without fear that it is going to die. I am impressed!
When I first started this project I wasn't impressed with the multi-spark discharge system. I thought it would certainly be useful in a racing application but for street use, I didn't think it was necessary at all. It just goes to show that we're never too old to learn something new. Also, there aren't many companies out there that would have been willing to spend much of their time trying to adapt their ignition to my application -- it takes a real motor-head to give enough of a damn to do that. Thanks to Paul, Gary and C5 Ignitions.

Paul from C5 was friendly and helpful when I was looking for a complete replacement ignition system for my 1970 900cc Ironhead. Between him and Mart at The Meriden Speed Shop, who supplied my kit, they gave me some great advice and shipped everything I needed to the UK at a very reasonable price.
The kit was easy to fit and worked first time. You don't need to be an electronics wiz to install this kit, from start to finish took me about 30 mins!
Thanks guys

Well i just got back from a morning cruise ......forget about the fact that Hooch is a fast bike ....the most impressive thing about the c5 is consistency ..it blows me away that it pulls all the hills around here in 5th gear and below 2000 rpm ...it does not even make a groan of any kind til about 1000 rpm .....amazing how smooth it is and this is with 1000 carbs the jerkiest for sure of all carb racks for oldwings.
I did some highway time too ...quite a bit ...with the throttle lock on ...wow ...this is cruise control ...the bike has so much torque it does not drop off at all hardly and throttle changes are not in play ...smoothest throttle lock ride in my life ....vibration was non existent ...this is simply the best bike i ever sat on and rode ...it has it all.
Smoothness and no trauma of a Goldwing ...power in all situations .....torque from 0 mph and more power up top than ones needs or want to push it ....i dont know words to say how fantastic i think this bike is and it's c5 ignition ..theres no debate in me about how good the c5 is ...even for stock bikes .....

Gentlemen,
Just a short note to say the Dyno visit was a complete success from the ignition perspective with no problems to report.
The new engine performed well on both program maps with more power being delivered on the 36° advance curve. This curve produced a higher reading of 6 bhp than the 30° curve. which in turn was a 11% increase from my previous best engine performance.
I would like to think this gain was purely down to the ignition but there are other factors at play in the engine build. However, suffice to say most of this increase is from your product.
I am now looking to experiment and feel I will need the cable and connector device to suit my ignition so send me these items to purchase.
Many Thanks again for a terrific product.

My '75 Vette has a mild cam and slightly rejetted carb. It started hard, especially in cold weather, and ran very rich. You could smell the unburned fuel coming from the exhaust. This engine had ok torque but was almost impossible to chirp the tires with.
After installing the C5 the car gained 18 hp at the rear wheel on a dyno! That 20% increase in power turned this car into a fun toy. It starts easier, idles better, doesn't smell at all anymore, and really runs like you would expect a Corvette to do. I am very pleased and have the honor of owning the first car system C5 sold.

Recently I was contacted by a friend that is an old GL guru and told about the C5 ignitions. He was helping to develop a version for the GL's which they have completed with amazing success. To make a long story short I now have one in my Convert.
The first time I started the bike after installation I was suprised how fast it started and seemed content to idle without the chokes on. Also, as it warmed up I had to turn the idle down some. Of course playing with a new product I had to see how far I could turn the idle down. I have not seen the charge light with the bike running since I installed the Duralast alternator. Now I was able to slow the idle until the light came on and my sidecar equipped Convert was not trying to run away. Of course this was too low to leave like that but it showed how much better the new ignition was working. The thing here is a more complete burn of the fuel. This system fires three times instead of only once at all RPM.
Obviously I am very happy with this ignition and could turn this into a long post talking about it. I have received amazing support from Paul at C5 refining the ignition curves. It comes with four different curves installed and can be switched from one to the other easily. While these ignitions are new to the Guzzi scene the bonus is that they are not new to motorcycles. Turns out one well know Norton shop here has been using them for a long time. They can supply models for Harley back to the thirties. Where c5 comes in is the development of versions for other bikes, cars, snowmobiles and on and on.
I have over 100,000 miles on my Convert pulling a sidecar. They work quite well in the snow.LOL Recently I have been considering putting a five speed in it to improve performance some. Yesterday I was doing a test ride (any excuse for a ride) and found myself grinning. For the first time in years the bike was performing closer to how I always thought it should. I bought this one from BJ a long time ago and his work with the transmission has kept it going without problems other than over time it seemed to be down on power. Now it's back with more to come. Paul is making up a new set of ignition curves (yes it's programmable ) just to suit my use of the bike hauling a heavy sidecar. Now, back to getting the valves adjusted.

I've been running your system in my 1966 Triumph 6T for a few months now, and can honestly say it's the best investment in an ignition system I've ever made. So easy to set up it's almost untrue. I did have a few issues with the bike while running in, but I knew 100% that it wasn't to do with the ignition timing, as this just wasn't possible. It's come to prove that other things were not quite right, which have since been sorted out. So thanks to the C5 kit, I've managed to get my bike running perfectly without having to mess around with something that isn't the issue.
I've forwarded your details on to friends and hope they'll contact you when their need arises. I've handed out all of the leaflets you sent me, but could do with more. If you have a link to a PDF where I could get some printed, that would be great.
Keep up the good work guys!

Paul,
This note is long overdue. You are my ignitions hero. I'm a moto mentor for the BUILD program here in Milwaukee, and as my team of high school students was completing their 1971 Honda CB175 AHRAMA racer this past spring, you and your ignition saved the day, and made us racers. You came down to Milwaukee the day of the unveiling, with a bunch of "maybe" parts and ideas, and had a new, never tried, never installed on this make/model ignition installed and working wonderfully in a matter of 2 hours. I got to drag race one of my competitors down Florida street in front of the Iron Horse hotel that evening! Awesome!
On top of that, you came back for dyno testing with the team to dial the bike in, and we got an extra horse. Up from 13 to 14! Small but significant numbers.
To top it all off, you made it your business to be at the races at Road America and support our efforts. Once again, above and beyond.
YOU, and the ignition ROCK!
Best,
Chris Steele
